Need some cheap and easy ideas for Father's Day to do with your kids this year?
Here are a couple of simple crafts that won't break the bank and are sure to bring some big smiles from Dad!
Materials needed:
-Paper (white + black construction paper)
-Painter's tape
-Sharpies
-Paint (we used all-purpose acrylic tape)
-Paintbrush
Hidden Painted Message
Get a sheet of paper (or tape multiple sheets together) and lay it flat on the table or ground.
Use painters tape to create letters by taping onto the paper and forming the letters strip by strip.
3. Once you have the word all taped and ready, get some paint and have your child paint all over the paper (and even on top of) the painter's tape letters.
4. Let the paint dry.
5. Once the paint is completely dry, remove the tape from the paper and watch as the paint comes off and reveals the "hidden message"!
*Note: We wanted to keep it short and make the word, "dad" for Father's Day, but obviously you can form any letters and colors you'd like! Such as sports teams or mascots with their team colors, favorite music bands, nicknames, etc. The possibilities are endless!
Sport handprints and footprints
My girls' daddy is a sports addict, so we wanted to create for him a painting that expressed our love for him but also included his most favorite thing ever--SPORTS!
Here's the steps we did to make our personalized sports picture for Dad!
Lay out a white sheet of paper.
Squirt some orange paint on a paper plate or disposable sheet or pan.
Use your paintbrush to spread the paint on your child's hand.
Have your child spread their fingers and press their hand firmly onto the paper.
5. Help the child lift their hand from the paper and check out their adorable orange hand print! *If needed, grab some extra paint and fill in any large gaps or holes that didn't transfer to the paper.
6. Follow the same steps as above using white paint for the other hand (onto black construction paper) and brown paint for their foot. Be sure to wash your child's hands and feet in between making the prints!
7. Let the handprints and footprint dry.
8. Once they are completely dry, cut out the white handprint (on the black construction paper) and glue it to the white page with the orange handprint and brown footprint.
9. Take a black sharpie and draw a circle around each of the handprints.
10. Draw black lines and curves over the orange handprint--making it resemble a basketball.
11. Next take some white paint and paint some "stitches" over the footprint to have it resemble a football.
12. Then take some red paint and your paintbrush and paint some curves and "stitches" over the top of the white handprint to have it resemble a baseball.
13. Once the last of the paint has dried, you or your child (if they can write) can write down the message for Dad! We went with, "Daddy, you're our MVP!"
*Note: There are various ways you can make this idea your own! Create different types of sports balls with your child's handprints--or maybe something completely different that goes along with his interests! Just something personal that shows that your love and captures the hand and footprints of his little ones right now will be a unique gift that he'll cherish.
